Principal’s Report
Welcome to week four of an already busy and productive term one.
I would like to thank parents and caregivers for coming along to the class meetings over the past two weeks. This is a valuable opportunity for parents to meet the teachers, hear about the quality teaching and learning programs, Home Practice and class expectations. We hope you have found the meetings informative and please feel welcome to make an appointment with your class teacher if you would like to discuss your child further.
Thanks also to parents who have updated contact details with the front office. It is essential that we have up to date contact numbers in case of an emergency. Please be aware that we are only able to release your child to adults you have included on your contact list. If your child is on the bus, please alert them to any changes in the daily schedule along with a note to the class teacher in the Communication Book.
Term one 2019 is a busy 10 week term, with PLDS teachers shortly visiting students who transitioned to their home school this year. Student information has been sent to schools and teachers will take a handover file of information for the 2019 teacher. We have also invited the exiting school teachers to attend Professional Learning at PLDS.
Our Teachers and Speech and Language Team have been busy completing language assessments to complete Individual Language Plans for every student at PLDS. We will invite parents to meet with us at the end of term one and early term two to discuss the language goals and strategies for your child. More information will be sent to you shortly.
The Outreach team has been presenting Professional Learning to the teachers in our service areas. The valuable service offered ensures we are building the capacity of Educators in WA to support the language and literacy needs of students.
In this newsletter you will find updates from our four sites. Pinjarra students have settled in well and are looking forward to an exciting year ahead. Students at the Rockingham Lakes campus have been enjoying the art sessions with Ms Hirsiger. At Mandurah campus the students are enjoying the morning fitness and art sessions and students at Bungaree have been learning about the importance of good character traits such as kindness and respect.
We had our first Board meeting today and on behalf of Peel Language Development School I would like to welcome Board members for 2019 and look forward to your contribution to our school in our fifth year as an Independent Public School. I think we have grown in the positive way we work together and look forward to working with you to continue implementing the Business Plan 2018-2020.
Voluntary contributions and charges are due by the end of term one. There will be more information to follow about the chance to win an exciting prize for fees sent in by the end of this term.
Have a safe and happy long weekend!

Room 3.3
It has been a very busy start for Term 1 in Team 3.3 and it has been fantastic to see everyone has settled in well to the new school year, a new classroom and being reunited with new and old friends.
We have been focussing on getting back into the routine of school and ways in which we can be good friends in the classroom and the playground. We came up with some wonderful ideas that we would like to share with everyone. We know we are good friends when we are kind and caring, take turns, are fair and helpful. We also decided that using our manners and including others in our games is a good way to be a good friend.
Another exciting inclusion into our program is Art with the wonderful Ms Hirsiger. We visit her Art Room once a week where we have begun working on our own part of a classroom mural.
Late Note
All parents/caregivers must complete a Student Late Arrival Notice from the office if student arrives after 9am before heading to class.
Dental
Dear Valued Parents/Carers/Guardians
We thank you for entrusting your local School Dental Service in looking after the Oral Health of your children.
We continue to provide free preventive and general dental treatment to all enrolled school students from pre-primary to the end of year 11(16 years of age). We are located at Endeavour Primary School and are open from Monday – Friday 8am-4pm.
Enrolment forms will be sent out shortly for Pre Primary and new students to the school. Please complete the enrolment forms and return to the school at your earliest convenience.
It is the parents/guardians responsibility to bring your child to their dental appointment. This is because we require you to update medical information, discuss treatment requirements, treatment plans and complete necessary documentation.

School Nurse
A note from the Community Health Nurse
Welcome to the new school year. My name is Leona Martin and I am the Community Health Nurse who visits your school.
Community Health Nurses work in schools to promote healthy development and wellbeing so students may reach their full potential. A major part of my work is focused on early intervention and the School Entry Health Assessment program.
Community Health Nurses serve as a health contact point for children and their families, providing information, assessment, health counselling and referral. The services provided are free and confidential.
School Entry Health Assessment
All children in Western Australia are offered a health assessment during their first year of primary school. This usually occurs in kindergarten and is provided by the local School Health Nurse. This is an excellent opportunity to look at the health and development of each child at the beginning of school life.
The Kindy assessments start in term 2/3.
The assessments are simple, standard tests which are non-invasive, quick and easy. The tests screen for problems which are best addressed, if picked up and treated early. The tests include:
- Vision and hearing checks
- ‘Lift the lip’ assessment
- Growth assessment including weight, height and Body Mass Index
- Developmental evaluation according to parent responses on the form
- Teacher and nurse observations
- Any other health, development and wellbeing concerns raised by parents.
Your child’s results will be sent home after their health check has been completed. Results are always treated confidentially.
Please note, the screening tests indicate if there may be a problem – they do not diagnose a condition. If the test results for your child suggest there may be a problem, the School Health Nurse will contact you to talk about further assessment and possible referral.
School Entry Health Assessment forms are currently being distributed for parents to complete. Please complete and sign the back page of the form before you return it. Please return the form to the class teacher as soon as possible.
I look forward to working with you and your family. Please phone if you wish to discuss anything to do with the School Entry Health Assessment.
If you have a concern about your child’s health or development, please contact me on 08 9419 2266.
Many thanks
Leona Martin | Clinical Nurse
Mandurah Campus
The staff and students at the Mandurah campus have begun 2019 with a lot of excitement. Many parents would have had the opportunity to meet our staff members at our classroom meetings last Tuesday to discuss the exciting year ahead. This year we welcomed three new teachers to our dedicated team at Mandurah campus. Mrs Kathleen Williamson is teaching the PP/1 class in room 10. Mrs Sasha Wilkinson is teaching Art across all years and working in the Pre-Primary and Mrs Ange Regler is teaching Science and Math in all classes.
Room 14
Room 14 students have had a busy start to the term. Day one saw them given the task of making a playdough creation. After which they drew and wrote about their designs. This activity certainly sparked lots of creativity, conversation and smiles.
The students have also been enjoying the sunshine during morning fitness activities. Exploring the climbing equipment, skipping and playing a variety of games.
During a literacy lesson the students discussed the Gruffalo story by Julia Donaldson. Later the text was used as inspiration for their first handwriting lesson of 2019. After completing their handwriting lesson, the students tried their hand at step by step instructed drawings of the Gruffalo and Mouse.
Bungaree Campus
Welcome to another exciting year at Bungaree Campus. Students and staff have a fantastic start to 2019, getting to know each other and the classroom/school routines. Most parents have had the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher to discuss the year ahead. Thanks to all those parents who were able to attend the class meetings last week. If you were unable to attend, and would like to discuss the information provided with the teacher, please make a note in the communication book and we will contact you to arrange a meeting time.
Room 1
In room 1, we have been reading the book ‘Have You Filled a Bucket Today?’ by Carol McCloud. We have been learning about the concept of ‘bucket filling’ by using actions and words to make someone feel good about themselves. Through filling buckets, students have been learning the importance of good character traits such as kindness, respect, fairness and citizenship. Students have embraced the concept and have had a lot of fun writing and receiving positive affirmations from their teachers and peers.
Pinjarra Campus
On behalf of all the staff at PLDS Pinjarra campus, we would like to welcome all the parents and students to the new 2019 school year. We are pleased to have been joined by two new members of staff this year. Jasmin Moignard has undertaken the position as our language support teacher and brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the classroom. Carmin Garside has undertaken the position of additional supporting Education Assistant in the year K/PP classroom and brings with her a vibrant personality and eagerness for student success. We look forward to keeping you updated on all the exciting learning adventures throughout the year!
