Anyone can help your school or Early Learning Centre
It’s easy for your kids, parents, grandparents, staff, neighbours, friends - absolutely anyone - to help your school or Early Learning Centre. Below is how it works:
Anyone from the community – staff, parents, grandparents, neighbours and friends - who shop at Woolworths can collect stickers for your local school or ELC. If your community sticks together and earns Earn & Learn stickers at Woolworths, you can earn your choice of educational equipment & resources.
This year we are proud to be partnering once again with Modern Teaching Aids, Australia's biggest supplier of educational equipment. This means your school or ELC can choose resources based on their unique needs across every category possible including: S.T.E.M, Science. Mathematics, English, Sport and Arts and Craft.
Please ensure once you have filled the sheet with stickers, it is placed into the Collection Box for Peel Language Development School or give to your classroom teacher if you are at Mandurah, Pinjarra or Bungaree.
Ringworm
There has been an outbreak of diagnosed Ringworm in some classes at the PLDS campus. This is a fungal infection and requires antifungal treatment if a child has it. Students must not attend school until treatment has occurred for 24 hours. We appreciate your assistance in preventing further outbreaks.
Principal’s Report
Welcome to our week four newsletter. I hope you enjoy reading about updates across our four campuses.
We would like to thank the P & C along with the busy band of volunteers for the many ways they help PLDS and RLPS throughout the school year.
The P & C have also kindly donated to assist with the purchase of playground equipment in our Pre Primary area.
I would also like to thank the School Board who met last Thursday, for their valuable contribution to our school and the work they do in our School Community. We welcome the discussion and feedback during the meetings as we continue to provide the highest level of teaching, learning and service to our communities.
The School and School Board will once again be sending out the annual survey to parents. Feedback is highly valued in our journey of school improvement. Parents will be able to access the survey online and at the Topsy Turvy Day.
We have an exciting range of learning experiences coming up in term three for students and parents across all sites including Artacular, Open Nights, Topsy Turvy Days and Sports Carnivals.
Pinjarra students have enjoyed celebrating 100 days of school with a yummy lunch lots of activities using 100. Bungaree students were able to wear their pyjamas for the day. They had a lovely warm and comfy day in the cold weather. Congratulations to Cooper who came 1st in the Year 3 boys division of Bungaree’s cross country race in week 2! At our RLPS campus Kindy B have had an exciting fortnight playing with the pet shop and beautiful fairy garden. Mandurah Kindy students have also had lots of fun reading about Wombat Stew and counting to 50!
Could parents and caregivers please check that emergency contact numbers on file at PLDS are current and updated. It is vital that in the event of an emergency, we are able to contact a family member or delegate.
Please make sure that all items of clothing are named. As the weather begins to warm up in the coming weeks students will take off jumpers and jackets. As mentioned, the Sports Carnivals will be held this term so please make sure footwear is appropriate to join in active sports lessons.
Stay warm and enjoy the exciting and productive term.

Pinjarra Campus
Room 30
Students in Room 30 celebrated 100 days of school with a sausage sizzle, milkshakes and popcorn lunch. The student’s popped popcorn, counted out 100 pieces and placed it in a bag they had previously decorated with 100 designs of their choice. The students then took on the challenge of building with exactly 100 unifix blocks. They worked individually and collaboratively in a group to create some fantastic constructions. We made some crazy glasses to ensure we looked cool to celebrate or 100 days at school. We looked around our room at environmental print then found and wrote 100 words. Later in the day we used 100 pieces of pasta and coloured matchsticks to test our division skills by dividing them into equal groups. We had a very busy and enjoyable 100th day.

Cooper is our very own superstar in the making! He received a gold medal for coming 1st in the Year 3 boys division of Bungaree’s cross country race in week 2. Well done Cooper!
RLPS Campus
Kindy B
In Kindy B we are reading lots of stories and learning about many things such as pets, initial sounds and numbers focusing on numbers 1 to 6. We are practicing our imaginative play and our social skills. As well as our pet shop, Mrs. Buchanan has set up a beautiful fairy garden for us to enjoy. The Kindy classes had lots of fun.

Pre-Primary
In Pre-primary this year we have had huge success with the children becoming very enthusiastic and competent gardeners. With our weekly weeding and watering sessions accompanied by our care and consideration we have managed to grow some delicious vegetables. Last week we were able to harvest some carrots, black radishes and watermelon radishes. The children picked, washed and ate their harvest and they were all super excited to be part of this living process. Our next vegetable on the harvest list will be some beetroot which we will pick when the weather improves and we can get out into our garden. We can’t wait to try our fresh beetroot!

Mandurah Room 10 Kindy
Kindy have been super busy already this term. We are learning about animals and where they live. We have been reading Wombat Stew and have created some wonderful artwork and recipes. Make sure you come in and see our awesome writing!
On Tuesday the 25th of July we celebrated 50 days of school. We made some fantastic hats and practised counting to 50. Who can believe that we are 50 days smarter already!
A huge thank you to Mrs Cally Jetta for coming in to our classroom to help us celebrate NAIDOC week. We learnt about the Nyoongar culture through stories and songs and our wonderful pictures that each child made using the symbols we had learnt.
Have a wonderful term everyone!

Room 11, 14 and 18
On Friday the 4th of August Room 11, 14 and 18 all joined in and created one assembly. Our focus this term has been on reading, writing and oral language. The children had learnt the story Mrs Wishy Washy and created activities around this in the classroom. For the assembly, they performed the story Mrs Wishy Washy and then sang the song Mrs Wishy Washy from the Learning Station. All the children did such an amazing job and we were extremely proud of them. We had lots of wonderful costumes of farm animals and we even had our very own Mrs Wishy Washy (Saxon Thomas).

Drinks - what should children drink?
Drinking plenty of water is essential for people of all ages. When your child is thirsty, encourage them to drink plain water.
It is recommended that:
- children aged 5 – 8 years drink 1000ml per day (4 big cups)
- children aged 9 – 12 years drink 1500ml per day (6 big cups)
- young people aged 13+ years drink 2000ml per day (8 big cups).
Drinking milk is also important, as it provides children with the calcium they need for growing bones and teeth. If your child doesn’t drink milk, try yoghurt, cheese or calcium-fortified soy milk.
The drinking of cordials, soft drinks and fruit juices should be limited, as the sugar in these drinks may contribute to tooth decay and unhealthy weight.
Energy drinks and artificially sweetened drinks are not suitable for children.
Online Safety - how to keep your child safe online
Protecting your children from harm is just as important online as it is in the real world. As a parent or carer, you can play an important role in helping children have safe and positive experiences online.
The internet offers an exciting world of experiences for children and the whole family. It can be entertaining, educational and rewarding. However, using the internet also involves risks and challenges.
Children might be exposed to content that is sexually explicit, violent, prohibited or even illegal. They may also experience cyber bullying or be at risk from contact by strangers.
Children may - unknowingly or deliberately - share personal information without realising they may be subject to identity theft, or that they are leaving behind content that might not reflect well on them in the future.
By taking an active role in talking with your kids about the risks and answering their questions or concerns about something that they find on the Internet you can help them stay safer online.
