Principal’s Report

Welcome to week 8 of an exciting and productive term one.

Individual Language Plan meetings commence this week, and are scheduled for the remainder of this term and the beginning of term 2. These meetings are an opportunity for parents and caregivers to discuss each child’s current language goals, and the teaching strategies that support the development of these goals. Meetings can still be scheduled using the following link below. Thank you to all families that have already scheduled a meeting.

Thanks also to parents who have updated contact details with the front office. It is essential that we have up to date contact numbers in case of an emergency. Please be aware that we are only able to release your child to adults that you have included on your contact list. If your child is on the bus, please alert them to any changes in the daily schedule, along with a note to the classroom teacher in the Communication Book.

Last week students across all campuses celebrated Australia’s cultural diversity by participating in Harmony Day activities. Rockingham Lakes campus hosted its annual Happy Day walk, and students were encouraged to dress in orange in recognition of Harmony Day.

Unfortunately, we have a small number of students that are coming to class after the commencement of the school day. Each classroom teacher has a morning routine that allows students to build independence, and to get ‘ready for learning’. Please support your child by ensuring that they are on time each day. Rockingham Lakes campus families are requested to sign in at the front office if your child arrives after 9:00am.

In this newsletter you will find updates from our four sites. The students at our Pinjarra campus have been busy participating in Crazy Hair Day and Harmony Day celebrations. Students at our Bungaree Campus have also celebrated Harmony day with art and craft activities and team work games. Our Mandurah campus students have been learning about how temperature changes materials, and made pasta pictures with their cooked spaghetti noodles. Year 3 students from Rockingham Lakes campus participated in an excursion to the WACA.

Have a safe and happy week.

Deputy Principal

School Board

Annual Public Meeting

Pinjarra Campus

Pinjarra students have had a colourful time over the last couple of weeks. The first event was Crazy Hair Day where students could come to school with crazy and outrageous hair styles for PBS reward day. PLDS students and teachers got on board, coming to school with wacky hair dos.

On Thursday 21st of March students celebrated Harmony Day. The PLDS students worked in multi age groups to learn about diversity and have a better understanding of Harmony Day. Students and teachers had lots of fun painting, creating and cooking.

PLDS students also took part in the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. Children learnt important information about bullying and how to stand up against bullying through fun and age appropriate activities.

Mandurah Campus

Mandurah Room 10

It has been a busy start to the year in Room 10. This term our theme is fairy tales. Fairy tales are a fabulous resource for helping to understand story structure. They are also rich in language and vocabulary as well as developing imagination and problem-solving skills. Thus far, we have received a letter from a giant, planted beanstalk just like Jack and the Beanstalk, attempted to catch a runaway Gingerbread Man and we have begun designing houses to protect the Three Little Pigs from the Big Bad Wolf.

Every Tuesday, Mrs Regler comes to visit our room to teach us Science. This term we are learning about mixtures and how temperature can impact on materials in chemical science. In one experiment we looked at how spaghetti noodles changed when cooked. We even made pasta pictures.

In the past 2 weeks, we’ve also had several special days at school. Last week was Mandurah Public School’s community breakfast. The staff cooked up sausages and pancakes. It was delicious!

We also learned about how to be a buddy not a bully on ‘Bullying! No Way!’ day. Our class talked about what buddies do to be a caring friend and even made a poster on the parts of a buddy.

This past Tuesday, we celebrated Harmony Day. We learned that diversity is our superpower and that while we may all have different backgrounds, we also have a lot in common that keeps us connected.

Bungaree Campus

Harmony Day

On Thursday, the 21st of March, Bungaree celebrated Harmony Day. Students participated in many diverse activities, such as, making Harmony Day badges and balloons, a unity hand tree, fairy bread and playing games that promoted team work.

A huge effort was also put in by all students and teachers to wear the official Harmony Day colour of orange. Everyone looked awesome in their orange shirts and dresses! It was a fabulous day to celebrate our country’s cultural diversity and to continue the important Harmony Day message of 'Everyone Belongs'.

RLPS Campus

Room 1.5

This term is flying by way too quickly for us. We have had a fantastic start to the year and we have all settled in nicely. We have been learning all about changes and growing things with Miss Murray in Science and have even started growing our own butterfly flower garden in class. We are super excited about our little seedlings and hope that they will soon be big enough to plant outside in our garden area.

We have also been busy learning how to tell time using o’clock and half past as well as investigating place value using Hundreds, Tens and Ones.

On Thursday 21st March we had Harmony Day at school. We were allowed to wear orange and we learnt all about differences of others and how to accept them and get along.

Harmony Day ‘Happy Walk’

Thursday 21st March we wore our orange proud and celebrated Harmony Day with a fun filled day ending with our ‘Happy Walk’ earning stamps and stickers along the way.

Year 3 WACA Excursion

On Friday 22nd March, the students from rooms 3.3 and 3.4 of the Rockingham Lakes campus were treated to an excursion to the WACA ground to watch the Western Warriors take on the Queensland Bulls in a Sheffield Shield match. We were able to watch the first session of play where the Warriors were batting. Mitch Marsh, the captain of the Warriors, reached 100 runs while we were there.

During the lunch break the students were able to go onto the field and play a game of cricket themselves. The students had a terrific time and were very well behaved throughout the day.
