Principal’s Report

Welcome to the last newsletter for 2018.

We would like to sincerely thank parents, family and community members and PLDS staff for your part in making 2018 an amazing year of teaching, learning and building positive relationships.

At the end of week 9 we attended our annual picnic and it was lovely to see so many parents and relatives joining us for the day. The picnic is always an enjoyable event but cannot happen without the support of staff, parents and volunteers. Thank you to the whole Peel Team for helping the day run so smoothly. Special thanks to Ben Voges and his committee members for your behind the scenes organisation.

Congratulations to all PLDS students on your achievements this year and special congratulations the recipients of the 2018 book awards across all sites. You should all be very proud of the progress you have made this year. On behalf of PLDS I would like to like to wish our exiting students every success in their new schools and we hope you will return for a visit.

Congratulations to Miss Kelly Taylor who has been acknowledged by the Professional Teaching Council of Western Australia (PTCWA) in a letter to our school for demonstrating a passion and willingness to be involved in supporting the teaching profession at a state level.

Students will be bringing home work samples for their family to view over the holidays and we hope you enjoy sharing the Semester Two learning journey. Reports will be sent out at the end of term and we hope you also enjoy seeing the progress your child has made.

We would like to thank Mrs Kelly Daraz and the P & C for your valued contributions and helping to make our school a united community. The P & C work tirelessly as volunteers in the school and we look forward to seeing new members join in 2019.

We would also like to thank Mrs Michelle Williams and the School Board for your united support in our fourth year as an IPS. It has been a positive and rewarding journey that we look forward to continuing in 2019. We will hopefully see some new parent and community members join the board next year.

Thank you to our gardeners and cleaners who maintain our beautiful schools every day. We appreciate the time you take to ensure our grounds are clean and safe.

A big thank you must also go to Mr Sewell and his Admin Team, the teaching staff and office staff at Rockingham Lakes PS. Your inclusiveness, support of the positive relationships between the two schools are truly valued.

We extend our thanks to the Teachers and Administration Teams at our co-located sites of Bungaree, Mandurah and Pinjarra for your help, support and inclusiveness.

We would also like to thank our dedicated team of educators at PLDS, including the Leadership, Outreach and Speech Pathology Teams. It's a privilege to work with such a caring team of professionals who have the students learning and well-being at the heart of everything you do.

Thank you to the Admin team at PLDS, we value your professionalism and care of the staff and students at our school. To Mrs Fussell, Ms Baines, Mrs Smartt and Mrs Fearn-Wannan, our sincere thanks for helping the school run smoothly. To Miss Columbus, Mrs Harper and Mrs Neeson, it's a privilege to work with such an amazing team and we appreciate your dedication to our school.

Sadly we will be farewelling Miss Weerasinghe, Miss O’Grady, Miss Smith and Ms Colebourne from PLDS at the end of 2018. We would like to sincerely thank you for your professionalism and care whilst working at PLDS. We wish you every success in your future endeavours.

Have a safe and relaxing holiday break. Wishing you all a merry Christmas and a very happy new year and we look forward to another successful year in 2019.

Water safety

In Australia, drowning is the number one cause of death for children under five. To keep your children safe around water:

  • Always stay with your children and watch carefully when they are near water, even if they can swim.
  • Teach your children about water safety and make sure they learn how to swim.

  • Have the whole family learn first aid.
  • If you have a pool have it fenced with self-closing gates.
  • Never leave them alone in the bath.
