Principal’s Report

Welcome to week eight of what is continuing to be a productive term of learning. Today we hosted teachers from all campuses on site for a Whole School Review. In these day long meetings teachers have had an opportunity to further develop their curriculum operational plans and their links to the new school business plan. They also have had the opportunity to receive professional learning on Behaviour Management, Protective Behaviours, Technology and National Consistent Collection of Data for Students with Disabilities. A full day of sharing and learning has been had by all.

In addition, teachers have completed final assessments and reports and we have seen some fantastic student work over the semester. Curriculum reports and Individual Language Plan Reports will be posted to parents next week, the last week of school. Students will also bring home work sample files in the last week. We hope you enjoy talking to your children about their achievements.

The Annual PLDS Open Day was held on the Monday 11th June. The purpose of the Open Day is to inform members of the community about the service we offer at PLDS. Parents were very impressed with the learning happening in classrooms, and many came back wishing that their children were already enrolled.

RLPS and Pinjarra will have the Critter Close Up Incursion as part of our Science program. I am sure all students will enjoy this fabulous interactive look at local animals from our environment and learning about their habitats.

At RLPS Campus on Friday the Police Pipe Band will be entertaining and interacting with the students as part of a music incursion.

Just a reminder that photos are on the RLPS Campus this week, and a reminder that phtots are at Pinjarra early next term.

Finally Mrs Collins will be back on board full-time next term with a few back to work days happening over the next two weeks.

In 1.6, we have been learning that what we say and how we say it, impacts the outcome of many situations we find ourselves in each day. We have been exploring the idea of 'T.H.I.N.K. before you speak'. We have been focusing on five key aspects to help us have positive interactions in the classroom and playground.

T- is what I am saying true?
H- is it helpful to others?
I- is it inspiring others to think?
N- is it necessary?
K- am I being kind?

As a class we have been discussing a range of situation and exploring the possible outcomes of two different responses. In small groups, we brainstormed what we could say in these situations and made sure that they were true, helpful, inspiring, necessary and kind! Check out our T.H.I.N.K. garden that reminds us each day to be mindful of what we say and how we say it.

Mandurah Campus

Jamie spoke at our assembly last week, is part of Heal Peel/Youth On Leadership and a Year 11 student leader from MCC. She spoke about the importance of eliminating single use plastic bags and the upcoming plastic bag ban on July 1st this year. At Mandurah Primary we are working together to fill a classroom with plastic bags. The children have been amazed at the huge mountain of plastic bags currently in the front office and the excitement has continued when they received three reusable bags in exchange for their plastic bags.

Jamie also visited classrooms and showed the children polluted waterways and discussed ways to keep our oceans clean. The children have taken this on and have been very eager to pick up any rubbish they see to save the animals. It was wonderful to have such an informative presentation that has really had a great impact on the children and caring for their environment.

Have You Filled A Bucket Today?

This semester, rooms 1 and 2 have been learning about how to be a bucket filler. We have learnt that everyone has an invisible bucket and by filling that bucket with kind acts you not only make someone else feel good but you feel good yourself. At recess and lunch students have been making a conscious effort to be bucket fillers by doing and saying nice things. Students had a lot of fun sharing this important message through their assembly item. Everyone did a fantastic job remembering their lines and a lot of fun and energy was evident in their singing and dancing. Congratulations rooms 1 and 2 you are all super stars!

Pinjarra Campus

Last Friday Pinjarra PLDS together with Ms Nina Murray our Science Specialist Teacher hosted Bunnings Halls Head for an exciting gardening incursion.

Students from rooms 28, 29 & 30 had the opportunity to prepare an area of garden before planting a selection of fruit and vegetable plants to become our very first communal vegetable garden.

We look forward to watching the vegetable garden flourish in the coming months, and thank Bunnings Halls Head and Ms Nina Murray for the fantastic learning experience for our students.

Online Safety - how to keep your child safe online

Protecting your children from harm is just as important online as it is in the real world. As a parent or carer, you can play an important role in helping children have safe and positive experiences online.

The internet offers an exciting world of experiences for children and the whole family. It can be entertaining, educational and rewarding. However, using the internet also involves risks and challenges.

Children might be exposed to content that is sexually explicit, violent, prohibited or even illegal. They may also experience cyber bullying or be at risk from contact by strangers.

Children may - unknowingly or deliberately - share personal information without realising they may be subject to identity theft, or that they are leaving behind content that might not reflect well on them in the future.

By taking an active role in talking with your kids about the risks and answering their questions or concerns about something that they find on the Internet you can help them stay safer online.
