Principal’s Report

Welcome to the first newsletter for term one 2018. We hope you had a safe and happy holiday and are ready for the productive year ahead.

Congratulations to parents, staff and students across all four campuses on a successful start to the school year. Our student enrolments have increased this year and we have added a new class at our Rockingham Lakes School site. Peel Language Development School would like to warmly welcome new families to our school and we look forward to forming positive and productive partnerships.

We would also like to warmly welcome new staff members to the dynamic team at PLDS.  This year we welcome back Kristen Aird to our Speech and Language team. We extend a warm welcome to our new teachers; Rachel Blomfield, Ellie O’Grady, Karen Bellenger, Lizzie LeBretton and Michelle Colbourne along with Erica Clarke as PLDS School Officer

Our first School Board meeting will be held on Friday 15th February at 12.30pm and we look forward to planning for our new Business Plan 2018-2020 with a focus on the key areas of the DoE 2018 Focus Document.

Information will be sent home shortly about Class Meetings to be held next week, week 3 across all sites. The purpose of the meetings is to discuss class routines, communication processes, school procedures, meet the PLDS staff working with your children and update contact details. Please return your RSVP notes promptly to class teachers and indicate whether your child will be accessing the bus on the meeting day. If you would like to individually discuss your child, please make an appointment with your class teacher for another time.

Communication is part of our very important duty of care for your child. Could you please make sure all contact details are updated with our front office (9593 9030), including emergency contacts. As per the information in your enrolment form, in the event of a medical emergency an ambulance will be called to ensure care of your child is provided. We are unable to release a student unless the person collecting them is on our contact list and has identification.

Another important part of the communication process is about students accessing the bus service. Could you please make sure any changes to your child’s bus schedule is written in the Communication Book along with notifying the bus drivers.

Term one 2018 is a busy eleven week term, with PLDS teachers shortly visiting students who transitioned to their home school this year. We are also testing students to assist with writing Individual Language Plans. Parents with be invited to a meeting at the end of term one to discuss the current language goals.

The team at PLDS looks forward to a successful and productive year with parents as partners in your child’s education as we continue to offer high quality education to our students and the schools we service across Western Australia.
