Principal’s Report
Welcome to the first newsletter for term four. We hope you all had an enjoyable holiday and managed to spend some time outside even though we still had some wintry weather. Our students have enjoyed seeing their friends again and have settled back into routines and activities. Term four will be a busy term with Induction, Transition, swimming, sports carnivals, school picnic and various other events. Further information will come out in the following weeks.
Students across all campuses have had an exciting start to term four. The students at Mandurah were able to share their holiday bags with teachers and friends along with investigating how to help the Gingerbread Man in Design Technology lessons. Bungaree started the term with a NAIDOC assembly and enjoyed a Noongar performance for the school community. Students at the RLPS campus have enjoyed learning about animals in Kindy, making yummy pasta in Pre- Primary and representing their factions at the sports carnival last Friday. Our Pinjarra students have enjoyed investigating Possum Magic and are looking forward to the Billycart race in week 4.
The Placement Panel met last week to review the applications for a place at one of our PLDS sites. Successful applicants will be notified shortly and be invited to attend our Induction Days at Port Kennedy, Rockingham, Pinjarra and Mandurah.
We will welcome Dame Pat Collarbone next week to work with our school community as we set targets for our new Business Plan 2018-2020. Pat Collarbone has unique experience in leading and managing sector wide change in education and will work with our Leadership Team, School Board and teachers to build on the strengths and recommendations from the Independent Public School Review conducted earlier in the year.
I would like to remind all parents to update your details at our front office if there is a change of address or phone number. It is vital that we are able to contact you in the event of an emergency. If you have or are changing addresses please give our front office a copy of your proof of address document such as a utility bill to keep our records current.
Thank you to parents who were able to complete the School Survey. Your feedback is valued to make our great school even better!
World Teacher’s Day is on the last Friday of the month, the 27th of October. It is a day that we can celebrate and show our appreciation for the hard work, commitment and dedication shown every day by the Teachers, Educational Assistants and Support Staff.
Enjoy the fine weather and have a productive term!

Mandurah Campus
What a wonderful start to Term 4 we have had. All the children have come back to school eager to learn and excited for what the remainder of the year will hold. Room 11 students brought back in their holiday bags and enjoyed talking to their peers about all the fun things that they got up to. After this, we sorted out all the holiday items by putting them into their correct categories.
Please look out for NED reward contracts for P-3 students that will be going home soon and return them as soon as possible.
In Room 11, we have been continuing with our theme of Fairy tales. Within this theme, we have been exposing the students to procedure writing. So far, we have made and written up about how to make Gingerbread cookies and playdough.
For the Design Technology area, the children have been reading the Gingerbread Man and came up with the idea of making their own floatation device for the Gingerbread man to go on instead of going across the river with that sneaky fox. All the children have designed their own and will be creating and testing it out soon. Thank you to the parents who have contributed materials for this.
Bungaree Campus
This week we had our NAIDOC assembly. The students in the Noongar group did a fabulous performance for the school community through song and dance. Our Bungaree classes have embraced the NAIDOC spirit and completed some wonderful art and craft. Have a look at Room 1’s incredible artwork created by the students and Maureen Foster, Bungaree’s AEIO. Thank you so much Maureen!
RLPS Campus
Kindy A & B
The students in Kindy A and Kindy B have been learning all about different categories of animals including pets, farm animals, land animals, ocean animals and Australian animals. We have discovered that each have different features, behaviours and habitats. We have learned this information by reading lots of books about animals, singing songs about animals, moving our bodies like animals and playing in our pet shop, vet clinic and jungle corner. We recently read a great Australian animal story called Wombat Stew by Marcia K Vaughan. We then made our very own Wombat Stew using water, sand, sticks, leaves, gumnuts and feathers! We had so much fun adding and mixing all of the yucky ingredients together in a huge pot. We also completed a narrative recount of the story, made animals, masks and role played the story together wearing our animal masks!
Sports Carnival
On Friday 13th October we had the 2017 whole school Athletics Carnival. Students from years 1-6 competed in running races, relay races, individual events and team games. The students demonstrated the skills they had learnt throughout this term in their faction groups. All of the students were extremely well behaved and showed good sportsmanship. I wish to thank all of the teachers who helped with the smooth running of the day and also to all of the parents and family members who were able to come and support our athletes. It was a tight race in the end to see who the victorious faction was but Forbes (red faction) finished on top and claimed the shield.
Peel Language was very well represented for the individual awards. Congratulations to Tamaroa Rakena for winning Year 1 Runner Up Champion Boy, Deegan Wood for winning Year 3 Runner Up Champion Boy and Tysen Bruce for winning Year 3 Champion Boy. The school is extremely proud of your achievements.

Pinjarra Campus
Welcome back to a very busy term!
In Room 28 this term we are exploring Mem Fox’s famous Possum Magic. So far we have identified our favourite parts of the story, labelled a Ringtail Possum and made our own. The Pre-Primaries have been learning about new words found within the story such as ‘invisible’ and ‘squash’.
Room 28 and 29 are preparing for our up and coming assembly where we will be performing the Australian Hockey Pokey. We hope to see you all on Thursday 2pm 26th of October in the undercover area. Parents please find further information regarding speaking parts and costumes in your child’s communication book.
We are also busy getting ready for a Billy Cart Race, which will take place during week 4, Tuesday, 31st of October. Our team name is “Orange Peel” – which is a hilarious play on words because we are from Peel Language Development School
The race is only a fortnight away on October 31st. The preparation for the much anticipated event is in full swing; with racing uniforms and Billy cart decorations all being secretly conducted to allow the community to be surprised. We look forward to seeing family and community members joining us on the day for some fast and furious action. Secret mystery captions can be seen below, but you can look forward to some fantastic action shots in the next newsletter after this great race.
Please check the Pinjarra Primary School Skoolbag App for all the latest updates.
During week two the children will be eagerly awaiting the interactive incursion on Tuesday 24th of October, provided by Musica Viva, where they will be able to listen and learn about the music of B’Tutta. Also this week children are invited to join in a free dress day on Thursday 26th of October by making a gold coin donation that will go towards two worthwhile charity organisations; Operation Christmas Child and Black Dog depression awareness.
Swimming
Swimming lessons for Pinjarra campus will start on Monday 6th November and run for two weeks, finishing on Thursday 16th November.
Student Free Day
Students do not attend school on Friday 17th November due to a Staff Development Day.
World Teacher’s Day
In Australia, World Teacher’s Day is celebrated each year on the last Friday of October to acknowledge the efforts and important contribution teachers make. We would like to invite you to recognize a teacher today by filling in the form that is on the Skoolbag app. We will be celebrating and acknowledging all our amazing and dedicated teachers at Peel Language Development School.
