Principal’s Report
Welcome back to all students, staff and families for what looks to be another busy and exciting term. I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday break. It's lovely to see students settling back into familiar school routines ready for a new term of learning.
You would have received your children’s reports and Work Sample files to look through over the holidays. I’m sure you enjoyed talking about the activities and the progress made over Semester One.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to Mrs Maggie Weightman who has returned to our team after extended sick leave. It’s great to have Maggie return to her Education Assistant duties at PLDS.
We have an exciting range of learning experiences coming up in term three for students and parents across all sites including Artacular, Open Nights, Topsy Turvy Days and Sports Carnivals.
NAIDOC celebrations have taken place across all sites and there is further information in this newsletter.
Could parents and caregivers please check that emergency contact numbers on file at PLDS are current and updated. It is vital that in the event of an emergency, we are able to contact a family member or delegate.
The School Board will be meeting next week to discuss the positive feedback from the National Quality Standards Team and the Independent Public School Review of our Business Plan 2015-2017. The final report will be available for public viewing this term.
The School will once again be sending out the annual survey to parents. Your feedback is highly valued in our journey of school improvement. There will be further information shortly about accessing the survey.
Students have commenced Edu Dance at our Rockingham Lakes campus and are thoroughly enjoying the sessions.
Please make sure that all items of clothing are named. As the weather begins to warm up students will take off jumpers and jackets. As mentioned, the Sports Carnivals are held this term so please make sure footwear is appropriate to join in active sports lessons.
We are looking forward to an exciting and really productive term.

Bungaree Campus
LET’S CELEBRATE!
At the end of last term students at the Bungaree Campus who had retained their good standing were rewarded with a great morning of fun. Everyone had a wonderful time climbing up the obstacle course, competing with each other to score the most shoots in basketball and spinning around the track inside the giant plastic balls. Congratulations to all the students who participated as a result of retaining their good standing by making ‘Positive Choices’.

Mandurah Campus
What a busy start to Term 3 for the students at the Mandurah Campus. We welcomed the first week of school with NAIDOC celebrations and an incursion from Captain Cash from the Commonwealth Bank.
Captain Cash from the Commonwealth Bank came to talk to us about the importance of money and taught us ‘speed for your need and wait for your wants’. It was a very fun but important message that the children from room 11 and room 14 thoroughly enjoyed.
The NAIDOC celebrations on Friday included the students making a bracelet, making and eating damper, eating kangaroo, Aboriginal sport on the oval, listening to a dreamtime story, making a boomerang and making their own scratch art piece. In the middle of these sessions the school met in the undercover area for an assembly and part of this was so that we could all sing ‘Wandjoo My Friend’ by George Walley. It was a busy but important day to celebrate and we have also been completing activities to help us learn about NAIDOC week in the classroom.
Room 11 have begun the Seesaw journey and we are loving being able to show what we have been doing in the classroom.
Miss Murray is asking for donations of 2 litre milk containers for an upcoming science activity and on Tuesday we have Bunnings coming to help us in our school garden.
Room 11,14 and 18 will be having their assembly item on the 4th of Augut. Please see the communication book for notes about this.
Pinjarra Campus
NAIDOC celebrations are held around Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The 2017 theme - Our Languages Matter - aims to emphasise and celebrate the unique and essential role that Indigenous languages play in cultural identity, linking people to their land and water and in the transmission of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, spirituality and rites, through story and song.
The students at Pinjarra Campus were invited to attend the celebrations on Tuesday Morning. Ms. Hawke personally greeted and invited children to join in the celebrations using traditional Nyungar language. Students spent an amazing hour having their faces painted, making friendship bands, painting didgeridoos and boomerangs. The children also painted and placed their handprints on a banner to highlight the importance of language.
Students then went inside and tasted some kangaroo sausage, before sitting down to listen to a traditional Aboriginal story read by Ms. Hawke. The students were also able to touch a kangaroo skin and view various traditional artifacts and learn about their traditional purposes.

NAIDOC POSTERS IN PINJARRA
The students at Pinjarra Campus made posters that will be displayed at the Pinjarra Library. Each class was assigned an animal, reptile or bird. Students were required to use their creative and artistic talents to work together to produce a poster portraying their assigned topic.
The students in Room 30 were assigned the Karda (racehorse goanna). After much discussion the students collaboratively decided on a mixture of dot painting using texta colours, brush flicking using paint and crushed gum leaves to complete their amazing poster.
Students in Room 29 were assigned the Koolbardi (Magpie). Students used a combination of crushed crepe paper, crayon rubbing and handprints drawn with texta to complete their fantastic poster.
Students in Room 28 were assigned the Maali (Black Swan). Students used crushed crepe paper, edicole dye and crayons to complete their attractive poster.
We are sure you will agree, the posters all look amazing and are a credit to all the students at the Pinjarra campus. Please pop into the Murray Shire Library to see them if you get the chance.

Fundraising
On Tuesday 8th August we will be holding a Fundraiser called 10c Tuesday. Students are welcome to bring in any spare 10 cent pieces they may have at home
Room 1.4
Room 1.4 celebrated NAIDOC Week by reading Dreamtime Stories, making up our own Dreamtime stories by using traditional Aboriginal Art Symbols and retelling the stories in front of the class. We also learnt what the colours on the Aboriginal flag represented and drew Aboriginal symbols on rocks. Our class really enjoyed immersing ourselves in retelling their Dreamtime stories.

Room 3.4
In 3.4 we celebrated NAIDOC week by creating a class art project. We each dot painted our own patterns on a piece of paper and when we joined them together it made a ngwir (Possum). We had a turn on Mrs Allengames didgeridoo and we also retold some dreaming stories through drama.

Immunisation information for parents
Immunisation programs in our community are designed to keep everyone well and safe, especially those people who are most at risk, such as babies.
Parents or legal guardians who do not immunise their child should note the following:
- In the case of a Measles or Pertussis (whooping cough) outbreak, Western Australian schools are required by the Department of Health, to exclude students who have not received the appropriate vaccination.
Please make sure your school-aged child is fully immunised and that you have provided a copy of the AIR immunisation record to the school.
Did you know that as parents you can ring the National registry or go to the web site to check out your child’s immunisation status? All you need is your Medicare number. Phone 1800 653 809 or access the web site or email air@humanservices.gov.au
