Principal’s Report
Welcome to the last newsletter for 2017. I would like to sincerely thank parents, family and community members and PLDS staff for your part in making 2017 an amazing year of teaching, learning and building positive relationships.
At the end of week 8 we attended our annual picnic and it was lovely to see so many parents and relatives joining us for the day. The picnic is always an enjoyable event but cannot happen without the support of staff, parents and volunteers. Thank you to the whole Peel Team for helping the day run so smoothly. Special thanks to Ben Voges and his committee members for your behind the scenes organisation.
Congratulations to all PLDS students on your achievements this year and special congratulations the recipients of the 2017 book awards across all sites. You should all be very proud of the progress you have made. On behalf of PLDS I would like to like to wish our exiting students every success in their new schools and we hope you will return for a visit.
Students will be bringing home work samples for their family to view over the holidays. Enjoy sharing the Semester Two learning journey. Reports will be sent out at the end of term and we hope you also enjoy seeing the progress your child has made.
I would like to thank Mrs Kelly Daraz and the P & C for your valued contributions and helping to make our school a united community. The P & C work tirelessly as volunteers in the school and we look forward to seeing new members join in 2018.
A big thanks to our gardeners and cleaners who maintain our beautiful school every day.
I would also like to thank Mrs Michelle Williams and the School Board for your united support in our third and review year as an IPS. It has been a positive and rewarding journey that we look forward to continuing in 2018 with the new Business Plan.
A big thank you must also go to Mr Sewell and his Admin Team, the teaching staff and office staff at Rockingham Lakes PS. Your inclusiveness, support and the positive relationships between the two schools are truly valued.
We extend a big thank you to the Teachers and Administration Teams at our co-located sites of Bungaree, Mandurah and Pinjarra for your help, support and inclusiveness.
I would also like to thank our dedicated team of educators at PLDS, including the Leadership and Speech Pathology Team. It's a privilege to work with such a caring team of professionals who have the students learning and well-being at the heart of everything you do.
Thank you to Mrs Hatfield and the Outreach Team, your service to the schools in WA is an awesome achievement and highly valued.
Thank you to the Admin team at PLDS. We value your professionalism and care of the staff and students at our school. To Ms Baines, Mrs Fussell, Mrs Smartt and Mrs Westphal, our sincere thanks for helping the school run smoothly. To Miss Columbus, Mrs Harper and Mrs Neeson, it's a privilege to work with such an amazing team and I appreciate your dedication to our school. Mrs Middlemiss will be leaving us as she has won a position at Fremantle LDC. We wish you every success and will miss you.
Sadly we will be farewelling Mrs McMullen and Mrs Glass from PLDS at the end of 2017. We would like to sincerely thank you for your professionalism and care whilst working at PLDS. We wish you every success in your future endeavours.
Have a safe and relaxing holiday break. Wishing you all a merry Christmas and a very happy new year and we look forward to another successful year in 2018.

We have had a busy few weeks at the Mandurah Campus.
We attended the Community Breakfast where it was wonderful to see the children and their parents engaging with one another over a shared breakfast to start them off for the day. We had the School Picnic which was an amazing day and the children all had fun and it was a very rewarding day. A massive thank you to Mr Voges for organising a wonderful event !
Room 11 held their very first Book Launch which was a huge success and we thank Miss Sullivan and parents for attending. Two weeks ago, Room 11 entered a Bunning’s competition where they had to create a Christmas tree by using recycled goods. We are excited to announce that we came in first place and won a certificate and $100 gift voucher. We have also had a visit from the Fremantle Dockers and even got some items signed.
We are looking forward to the beach reward day on Monday and the puppet show on Thursday.
We would like to take the time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and thank you for your continued support over the year.

Sun safety
With the hot weather approaching, it is important to talk to your children about sun safety and teach them good sun protection habits.
Slip on some sun-protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible.
Slop on broad spectrum, water resistant SPF30+ sunscreen. Put it on 20 minutes before you go outdoors and every two hours afterwards. Sunscreen should never be used to extend the time you spend in the sun.
Slap on a hat that protects your face, head, neck and ears.
Seek shade.
Slide on some sunglasses – make sure they meet Australian Standards.
Extra care should be taken between 10am and 3pm when UV levels reach their peak.
