Principal’s Report
Welcome to the last newsletter of a very busy and productive term of learning.
I would like to thank parents and carers along with students and PLDS staff for your support, teaching and learning during the term.
I would also like to thank Ms Hirsiger and her team of helpers, along with our very creative students for once again producing an Artacular display that showcased work from all students. The artwork looked fantastic and the Library was transformed into an amazing display of colour. We also hope you were able to attend the Open Nights across our campuses to talk to teachers and view your children's work.
In this newsletter you will find information about students from all campuses including the garden work at Bungaree, the math activities at Mandurah, Edu Dance at RLPS and the sports carnival at Pinjarra.
I would like to remind all parents to update your details at our front office if there is a change of address or phone number. It is vital that we are able to contact you in the event of an emergency. If you have or are changing addresses please give our front office a copy of your proof of address document such as a utility bill to keep our records current.
The Speech Pathology and Admin Team have been busy receiving applications for new student enrolments for 2018. The Placement Panel will meet in week one, term four and successful applicants will be notified shortly after that.
Thank you for completing the School Survey. Your feedback is valued to make our great school even better!
Have a safe and happy holiday and we hope you are able to spend some time outside to enjoy the spring weather.
Staff First Aid Training
On Saturday 9th September 2017 our staff attended First Aid Training in an Education Setting. A lot of information was learnt and fun had by all. Here are a few photos to give you a glimpse of our day.
Bungaree Campus
** Bungaree campus return to school on Monday 9th October 2017 **
On Thursday the 14th of September the students at Bungaree participated in structured rotations focussing on creating conversations based around R U OK? The students were taught how to ask their friends if they are ok and how to seek help from a teacher or parent. The students participated in a variety of sensory, craft and cooking activities to promote healthy conversations based around how they are feeling and how to express their emotions. It was a fantastic morning with a high level of student and parent engagement. After the morning activities commenced the teachers enjoyed an R U OK cup of tea.
Bungaree students also participated in the sports factional carnival where we had some excellent achievements by individual students. It was a fantastic day and students enjoyed a variety of team sports and fun games. Thank you for all the assistance from the parents during the day and we look forward to a very busy term 4. Safe and happy holidays from all the teachers at Bungaree.

Science
Once again we would like to thank everyone for their generous donations so far to the PLDS gardens. We are planning some projects in the Bungaree garden that need 2L milk bottles! So instead of putting them in the recycle bins could you please donate them again to your class! Thank you in advance.

Mandurah Campus
** Mandurah campus returns to school on Tuesday 10th October 2017 **
At Mandurah, room 11 have been learning all about fractions. We have been doing lots of activities that involve using fractions. On Wednesday, the 13th of September we were able to go into our garden and pick tomatoes, rosemary and chives. The children were excited to see all of the plants growing and used them to make their own fraction pizza.
In pairs, the children had their own portion of a pizza which they could put their own ingredients on. They were then able to cut the ingredients for the pizzas up and then cut their own pieces of the pizza. We had half, quarters, whole and even eighths cut.
We will be having our NED reward day on Friday the 22nd of September, please remember to sign and complete the forms. It will be an exciting day with Mrs Murphy as we will be making a sample of a vegetable pastry using the vegetables that we have been growing in our school garden.
Just a reminder that Friday the 22nd of September is the last day of school for Term 3. We hope you have a great holiday and we can’t wait to hear all about your adventures!
Thank you Bunnings !
Bunnings have helped us with creating our very own garden and helped to build relationships with Mandurah Primary School by also working on their garden. Bunnings also kindly provided us with a $100 voucher that we spent on the garden.
The Bunnings team were amazing and came out to all Peel classes and helped the children to make their dads/special people a toolbox.
They were extremely helpful, informative, knowledgeable, kind, supporting and just amazing! Nothing was too much hassle for them and they were so good with our children.
Overall, their contribution to our School has been extremely beneficial to our students.
Thank you once again Bunnings, Mandurah !!!!
RLPS Campus
** RLPS Campus returns to school on Tuesday 10th October 2017 **
At Rockingham Lakes we have been practising our EDU Dance routines every week in preparation for our concerts. Some of our Peel classes had their concerts last Wednesday. 3.3 and 3.4 had their concerts on Wednesday as well as 1.3 and 1.4. They did an amazing job dancing to their music and they all looked fantastic in their costumes. Well done to everyone who was involved.
RLPS - Peel Language Chaplain
Hi, this is Eleanor Clayson, Peel Language Chaplain. I'm excited to announce the Rainbows Program has commenced this term! I am running this Program with Deb Cunningham the Rockingham Lakes Chaplain. The Rainbows Program is a grief and loss program run in a small group during class time.
When a significant life change happens in a family, for e.g. a death, divorce, house or school move, the whole family is affected. These events have a profound effect on the children it touches. Rainbows helps develop social and emotional skills to assist students in this small group setting.
As the school Chaplain my goal is to create a space for children to talk about their feelings when they are ready. I have one on one sessions with students who are referred to me as well. Most of the time I will talk to students while we're playing a board game or doing something creative like colouring in or making something.
If you have any questions or want to contact me please email: eleanorc@youthcare.org.au
Pinjarra Campus

Congratulations to all students who participated in Pinjarra Primary Schools Athletics Carnival on Tuesday the 12th of September. Your sportsmanship and behaviour were exemplary; you should feel extremely proud of your efforts. Special congratulations, to Korbyn Napoli for being named champion year 2 boy, a mammoth effort and achievement against some outstanding competitors.
Open Classroom
On Thursday the 7th of September students at Pinjarra PLDS took part in the outdoor classroom initiative. A beautiful sunny spring day provided the backdrop for some great outdoor learning opportunities.
Students in room 30 took advantage of the sunshine to complete reading, spelling and mental maths activities before venturing off on a nature walk to find resource’s to build traditional Aboriginal houses.
Students in room 29 also took a nice stroll in the sunshine finding natural materials they could utilise to complete maths patterns.

Vacation Swimming enrolment 2017 / 2018
It is important for every child to learn to swim properly and develop essential water safety skills. VacSwim’s December and January school holiday swimming program is conducted by qualified instructors who teach children the skills to be confident swimmers and safe in the water.
You may wish to advise Vacswim of your child having special needs and they will be placed in smaller classes (If you feel a smaller group would be beneficial to your child - you can choose this option).
