Principal’s Report

Welcome to week four of term two. We hope you are enjoying the beautiful sunshine and making use of the opportunity to spend some time outside.

Year three students and teachers have been busy across all sites completing NAPLAN tests. Thank you to parents for ensuring your children had plenty of rest during the week.

We are looking forward to a fundraising event this Friday at our Rockingham Lakes Campus and would like to thank the P & C, along with parent volunteers for organising and helping at the disco. Further details are in this newsletter.

The Kindy A students at RLPS have been learning about families and have done some beautiful art work as well as making Mother’s Day presents.

Also at our RLPS campus, the winner of the Bike will be announced by Mr Paul Papalia, CSC MLA Member for Warnbro at the next Junior assembly on Friday 2nd June.

Our year two/three students at Pinjarra have had an exciting week moving into their new classroom. We now have three classes at our Pinjarra site. The students at our Mandurah campus have been busy learning about families and using the Bee-Bots during Technology lessons. Our Bungaree students have had lots of fun learning about time and shape with Mrs Yesberg.

The school Board held its Annual Public Meeting for 2017 last Thursday where we tabled the Annual Report. The Annual Report for 2016 has been completed in accordance with the Business Plan and Focus 2016, summarising data and school information including the valuable work of our School Board and school community. The report is also available at the PLDS front desk, on our website and Schools Online.

I would like to sincerely welcome our new Board members Jamie-Lee McCloud and Kynan Ridley to the dynamic team at PLDS. The new members participated in Induction training prior to the meeting. This was an initiative developed from feedback of current Board members.

The PLDS school website has been updated to better enable the PLDS team to keep the information up to date. The website will be live shortly for members of the public to access information.

The Annual PLDS Open Day will be held on the 12th June. The purpose of the Open Day is to inform members of the community about the service we offer at PLDS. We are trialling a new format this year where parents and carers are attending in the morning and a Professionals Afternoon Tea will be held later in the day.

Parents were invited to an Individual Language Plan meeting at the end of term one to discuss their child’s current language goals. All meetings were attended by teachers and Speech Pathologists to ensure we are keeping them informed about their child’s progress. The meetings across all campuses have been very successful with a high attendance rate from parents and caregivers, ensuring we are continuing to provide opportunities for our families to be involved in their children’s education.

PLDS will receive a visit from the National Quality Standards team tomorrow to audit and verify the valuable work we have done at our school.

Have a safe and happy two weeks

Exciting Times For Students At Pinjarra

Week 3 has been an exciting time for the year 2/3 students and staff at Pinjarra Campus as they moved out of their tiny temporary classroom and into their amazing new classroom. It is fantastic having such a lovely big room.

Last week Miss Smith, Mrs Rose, Pre-Primary and Year one students from room 29 came to visit and share their own creations of The Very Hungry Caterpillar story. The students sat with a year 2/3 peer and shared their beautiful illustrations and demonstrated their reading ability. When the book sharing was over, the year 2/3 students taught their younger peers how to play a maths game. The object of the game was to roll specific numbers with a die and be the first to create a Very Hungry Caterpillar.

RLPS Campus

Kindy A

This term Kindy A have been learning all about our families. We have talked about who lives in our house, who else is in our family and how different all of our families are. We have made a family tree which was lots of messy fun and have practiced painting our families. When painting our family we tried really hard to remember all of the body parts that we need to paint when painting people. We have learnt so much about our bodies and our paintings are looking great. We also made a gift for a very special person in our family. We drew a picture of our mum and us on a cup and then baked them in the oven. It was great fun and we were so excited to give them to mum on Mother’s day. It has been an exciting start to the term in Kindy and we can’t wait to start learning about food, clothing and our homes. We are going to be very busy.

Disco

RLPS Campus will be holding a School Night Time Disco on 19th May in the Undercover Area.

Session times as follows for PLDS students, Kindy to Year 3: 4.30pm – 5.30pm.

Pre-Purchased tickets $5 per child or Ticket sales on the night $10 per child. Tickets will be on sale outside the library BEFORE school from Tuesday May 16 to Friday May 19.

Pre Primary Excursion

We are pleased to advise the Pre Primary classes will be going on an Excursion to Peel Zoo on 9th June 2017. There will be a cost of $22.80. More information is coming home to parents this week.

Mandurah Campus

Room 10

Our classroom has some fantastic new flooring down and we are all enjoying lots of messy play!!

This term in Kindy we have been very busy. We have been reading books about our Mums, painting pictures of our Mums and talking about all the great things our Mums do. We hope all our families had a wonderful Mother’s Day and loved their presents. This term we are learning about our homes, household items and clothing. We have drawn beautiful family pictures so make sure you come in and have a look if you have not already seen them.

Room 18

In Pre-Primary we have been using the Bee-Bots during our technology lessons. It has been a great way to encourage turn taking as well as use of positional language. Here are some photos of the students experimenting and learning about all the great things technology has to offer!

Bungaree Campus

Bungaree Site Room 2

This Semester in Room 2, we have been learning about time and shape concepts with Mrs Yesberg.

We have had so much fun learning about 2D and 3D shapes, time to the hour and half past and the days of the week in small group activities.

We have been very lucky to play a variety shape and time games and make clever pictures out of 3D shapes. We also love singing our ‘days of the week’ song to help us remember the order of the days in the week.

Thanks Mrs Yesberg for making Maths so much fun in Room 2!!

Bike Raffle

For those families who paid their Voluntary Contributions by end of Term 1 you would be aware that you went into a raffle to win a Bike.

The Raffle will be drawn this week and winner will be notified, so the family is able to attend the Junior Assembly on 2nd June, where the Bike will then be presented by Paul Papalia.

GOOD LUCK !!!

Chaplaincy Opt Out Form – RLPS & Bungaree campus

At Peel Language Development School we follow a philosophy of providing pastoral care for our students as part of our aim in achieving academic excellence. Working with our Student Services Team, chaplaincy is an important part of our strategy. Our School Chaplaincy Service is provided through YouthCARE.

YouthCARE chaplains provide holistic pastoral care to students, school staff and members of the community, irrespective of their faith or cultural backgrounds. The pastoral care provided has a broad scope and includes one on one and programmed group sessions addressing physical and mental health issues, social and values education, behaviour management, emotional support and professional referrals among many other out workings.

Although the school strongly supports our chaplain, we understand that you, the parent, may have objections to your child/children interacting with or accessing the services of the chaplain. If you do object, please return the completed form attached, to school reception and we will ensure your child/children only access help through other avenues of our student services team.

YouthCARE Chaplaincy is an ‘Opt-Out’ programme, and thus if we do not hear from you the assumption is that you give permission for your child to access chaplaincy services if needed.
