Principal’s Report
Welcome to week eight of an exciting and productive term one.
Class Meetings across all campuses have been very successful with a high attendance rate from parents and caregivers ensuring we are continuing to provide opportunities for our families to be involved in their children’s education. We hope you have found the meetings informative and please feel welcome to make an appointment with your class teacher if you would like to discuss your child further.
Thanks also to parents who have updated contact details with the front office. It is essential that we have up to date contact numbers in case of an emergency. Please be aware that we are only able to release your child to adults you have included on your contact list. If your child is on the bus, please alert them to any changes in the daily schedule along with a note to the class teacher in the Communication Book.
PLDS teachers have almost completed transition visits to schools where we offer support to the schools and teachers of exited students. Part of our support includes providing oral language focused Professional Learning to schools. We have also invited the exiting school teachers to attend Professional Learning at PLDS.
Parents are currently attending Individual Language Plan meeting to discuss their child’s current language goals. All meetings are attended by teachers and Speech Pathologists to ensure we are keeping them informed about their child’s progress. Teachers have been using the format endorsed by the board at the last meeting, making our reporting to parents clear and informative.
The work on the nature playground at Rockingham Lakes has begun and you will have noticed the lovely seating area between block one and two donated by the campus P & C. You will have also noticed the new building site for the before and after school care is progressing and will hopefully be finished by term two.
In this newsletter you will find updates from our four sites. The students at Pinjarra have been developing their semantic knowledge by learning about transport. Congratulations to room 1 students at Bungaree for winning the Tidy Class Award last week. The students from Mandurah have been having lots of fun with technology to create a ‘Snake Catcher’, while students at the Rockingham Lakes campus have had an exciting week attending the WACA and we look forward to the Harmony Day walk on Friday.
Voluntary contributions and charges are due by the end of term one. There will be more information to follow about the chance to win an exciting prize for fees sent in by the end of this term.
Have a safe and happy week.

Bungaree Campus
Room 1
Congratulations to the awesome students in Room 1 who won the Bungaree Tidy Class Award last week. Each day student councillors visit classrooms and take notes on the general tidiness and presentation of the class. We have been learning to be Oscar Organised and our hard work has been rewarded, Well done!
This term Bungaree PS has implemented a choose ‘Respect’ award. Each day students earn blue respect tokens which are then allocated to their classroom. Last fortnight Room 1 received more tokens than any other class and received the inaugural reward.
All the students in the class received wrist bands and 10 minutes additional play time. The class received a football and a pizza voucher. Fantastic effort Room 1!

Mandurah Campus
The students in Room 14 at Mandurah learnt all about St Patrick’s day on Friday 17th March. We learnt where Ireland is in the world in relation to Australia. “A long way away!!” many students exclaimed.
Students learnt a little about the history of the day, why it is a special holiday and the legend of St Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland. Children worked on their fine motor skills and created a green and gold hat for the day.
Then students needed to put their design and technology skills to work to create a ‘Snake Snatcher’ to pick up and remove the snakes from the map of Ireland. To decide how effective their device was students were timed to see how quickly their device removed the snakes. We had a fun day!
Goodstart Early Learning Open Day
Goodstart Early Learning in Greenfields is having an open day on Saturday the 8th of April at 8am. Families and the wider community are invited to come down to the centre and have some fun. There will be stalls with goodies for sale and fun activities for the children. For further details please contact the centre on 1800 222 543.
Pinjarra Campus
Room 29
This term the Pre-Primary and Year One students in room 29 have been learning about transport. We have been developing our semantic skills by playing grouping and classifying games and by producing some great art and craft work to display. We have also been reading stories that feature different transport, including Mr Gumpy’s Motor Car and Who Sank the Boat.
On Friday 17th of March the staff at Pinjarra Primary School presented Sharon Cudby with a 'Staff Champion' trophy. Sharon voluntarily supervised students (from both schools) who had lost their good standing status and were therefore unable to participate in the whole school reward. A lovely gesture to demonstrate their appreciation!

D3
This term in D3, we have been learning all about ourselves. WE have been brainstorming all the things that we are interested in and like doing. Some of our interests include going to Adventure World, eating ice cream and chocolates, dancing, football, playing with our friends, shopping and many more!
We have also been discussing how we don’t all like the same things and how we don’t all look the same. Everyone is different and unique in their own way! In Art we have been drawing portraits of our face and our self. We have also been sharing our wonderful artwork with our peers. We hope you like our pictures!
WACA Excursion
On Thursday 16th March, the students from rooms 3.3 and 3.4 were treated to an excursion to the WACA ground to watch the Western Warriors take on the New South Wales Blues in a Sheffield Shield match. We were able to watch the first session of play where the Warriors were batting.
During the lunch break the students were able to go onto the field and play a game of cricket themselves. The students had a terrific time and were very well behaved throughout the day.
Science Team
Thank you to everyone who donated empty milk bottles as they make fantastic watering cans, Jasmine M who donated LOTS of seeds and everyone in ECE5 class, we were given, canes, soil, garden signs, shade cloth, milk bottles and seeds.
In other news it has been decided that Chemical Science will be taught for Semester 1 this year.
Science also needs donations of approximately 24 shoe boxes! We already have had a few come in but keep them coming please.
Thank you

Tips for helping your child have a healthy body weight and a healthy body image
- Be a positive role model and encourage healthy eating and physical activity, by providing healthy meals and snacks and getting active.
- Organize fun, family activities which encourage everyone to be active.
- Help children to see ‘treat’ foods, such as lollies, biscuits, chips, cakes and ice cream, as food which should be eaten only occasionally – not every day.
- Help your children to understand that there is no such thing as an ideal body shape and that ‘healthy’ people come in many shapes and sizes.
- Help your children feel special about themselves. Provide rewards and treats which are not food.
- Teach children that a person’s value is not determined by how they look.
- Avoid making comments about body weight. Focus on growth, not on scales.
- Don’t focus on weight and food restriction – focus on improved health, fitness and having fun.
