Principals Report

Welcome to week six of a busy term. I hope you all enjoyed the extra day with your families over the long weekend.

Thank you to parents who attended the onsite P & C AGM last night. I would also like to thank the 2016 office bearers for their hard work and welcome the office bearers for 2017. The P & C have generously donated the lovely area on the paved playground between block one and block three, so we would like to sincerely thank them for their contribution to our school. It would be great to see more parents from our onsite campus volunteering for the many jobs the P & C do. Information about volunteering is in this newsletter.

Just a reminder to parents to update any changes to contact details with the front office. It is essential that we have up to date contact numbers in case of an emergency. If your child is on the bus, please alert them to any changes in the daily schedule along with a note to the class teacher in the Communication Book.

Thank you to parents who have submitted an Expression of Interest to the School Board. Final decisions about members will be sent out shortly.

We are sending letters home inviting you to an Individual Language Plan meeting with your child’s teacher and a Speech and Language Officer. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the goals and teaching strategies in your child’s Individual Language Plan. Please phone your RSVP to 9593 9030 once you receive the letter and we look forward to meeting with you to strengthen the quality partnerships we value with parents.

Transition visits to schools are almost complete and feedback has been positive about the 2016 students successfully transitioning into their home schools for 2017. Thank you to Mrs Harper for coordinating the visits and maintaining positive, inclusive connections with our students home schools.

In this newsletter you will find information about the Easter Raffle at Pinjarra Primary School, volunteers for the election at RLPS Campus and information from the school nurse. We also have exciting news from our four campuses. The students at Bungaree have been working on their narratives, the students onsite have been making yummy pancakes, the students at Pinjarra have been working on their computer skills and the students at Mandurah have been talking about families and pets. Well done staff and students in maximising the quality learning opportunities to further develop the oral language of our students.

Voluntary contributions and charges are due by the end of term one. Fees sent in by the end of this term will go into the draw to win a prize at the junior assembly in term two.

Have an enjoyable fortnight making the most of the last of the warm weather.

Getting Computer Savy in Pinjarra

By embracing and integrating technology in the classroom, it is our hope that we are setting our students up for a successful life both in and outside of school. The students in Rooms 29 & 30 have been fortunate enough to be able to utilise the computer room at Pinjarra Primary School for one hour each Tuesday. During these sessions the students have been initally exploring the functions of a computer. More recently they have begun using word programs to re produce daily writing activities. These sessions have been a wonderful way to integrate peer colaboration and interaction between our Peel Language classes at Pinjarra.

RLPS Campus

Rockingham Lakes Room 3.4

We have settled into this term nicely and we have being learning lots of new and exciting concepts. This week the years 3’s have started looking at Measurement in mathematics; we have talked about grams, kilograms millilitres and litres.

On Tuesday it was Pancake Day, so we used our cups and jugs to weigh our wet and dry ingredients – to make Pancake batter.

The students enjoyed breaking the eggs, pouring in the ingredients and mixing the batter. We talked about the hot pan and how we have to be careful in the kitchen around the stove. The students enjoyed flipping the pancakes and thankfully they all made it back into the pan.

We then completed a sequencing activity about making pancakes and the students wrote a recipe and instructions on how to make them. It was a lot of fun, the best part was eating the pancakes at the end.

Canteen

Should your child go home sick or injured and you have placed a lunch order with the canteen, could you please ensure the order is collected before lunch time as no refund will be given.

Volunteers Needed

The P&C needs volunteers for “Election Day” sausage sizzle on Saturday, March 11, 2017.

Please contact Lisa in the canteen for more info.

Uniform Shop and School Banking

There are new opening hours for the uniform shop as follows:

Tuesday - 8:30am - 9:00am
Friday - 2:15pm - 2:45pm

School banking will also be resuming every Friday starting on the 17th March from 8:20am - 8:40am.

Mandurah Campus

Our Pre-Primaries have settled into the classroom routines well and have formed strong connections with their peers through group work and whole class challenges. We are focussing and working hard, producing some amazing work. We have been learning about each other and our families. There has been great conversation around who is in our family and what pets we have. During our literacy sessions we have been working with the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children have enjoyed craft activities, sequencing activities, recalls and much more. A particular highlight has been being the teacher using the microphone to teach others this has really encouraged some of our quieter students to participate it has also been a great lesson on appropriate volume tone and pitch.

Bungaree Campus

Room 3

This term, Room 3 have been working hard to explore the elements of Narrative. We have been reading ‘Rosie’s Walk’ written by Pat Hutchens and looking at features such as ‘Who’, ‘Where’, ‘When’ and ‘What’. We have also completed some directed drawings and story sequencing activities about the story. We love the story because it makes us laugh and also teaches us the importance of safety. Check out some of our wonderful work we have completed over the last few weeks.

Head lice

Head lice are tiny insect parasites that live on your head and feed on your scalp. Head lice are spread by head-to-head contact with another person who has head lice. This kind of contact includes doing group work, playing, or hugging.

Tips for preventing head lice

  • Check your child’s hair regularly for head lice and eggs (‘nits’). Use a metal fine tooth ‘nit’ comb and plenty of hair conditioner applied to the dry hair, to make the task easier and more effective. To help children sit still for this, offer distracting activities, e.g. play a favourite video, provide games, iPad apps, offer a head massage.
  • Tie long hair back. Braid long hair and/or put it up if possible.
  • Consider applying hair gel or mousse. These do not prevent or repel lice but may help to keep stray hair strands from contact with other heads.
  • Avoid sharing combs or brushes.
  • Remind your child to avoid head-to-head contact with other children, e.g. when working at the computer with others, or when playing, or hugging.

If your child has head lice please notify the teacher.
