Principals Report
Welcome to week four of an already busy and productive term one.
I would like to thank parents and caregivers for coming along to the class meetings over the last few weeks. This is a valuable opportunity for parents to meet the teachers, hear about the quality teaching and learning programs, Home Practice and class expectations. We hope you have found the meetings informative and please feel welcome to make an appointment with your class teacher if you would like to discuss your child further.
Thanks also to parents who have updated contact details with the front office. It is essential that we have up to date contact numbers in case of an emergency. Please be aware that we are only able to release your child to adults you have included on your contact list. If your child is on the bus, please alert them to any changes in the daily schedule along with a note to the class teacher in the Communication Book.
Term one 2017 is a busy ten week term, with PLDS teachers shortly visiting students who transitioned to their home school this year. Student information has been sent to schools and teachers will take a handover file of information for the 2017 teacher. We have also invited the exiting school teachers to attend Professional Learning at PLDS.
Our Speech and Language Team have been busy completing language assessments for teachers to write Individual Language Plans for every student at PLDS. We will invite parents to meet with us at the end of term one to discuss the language goals and strategies for your child. More information will be sent to you shortly.
The Outreach and TDS teams are already busy presenting Professional Learning to the teachers in our service areas. The valuable service offered from both teams ensures we are building the capacity of teachers in WA to support the language and literacy needs of students.
In this newsletter you will find updates from our four sites. The students at Pinjarra have been making ‘painted toast’ and the Kindergarten students from Mandurah have been having lots of fun with the outside play equipment.
On behalf of Peel Language Development School I would like to welcome Board members for 2017 and look forward to your contribution to our school in our third year as an Independent Public School. I think we have grown in the positive way we work together and look forward to working with you in 2017. In this newsletter you will find information about sending in an expression of interest to join the School Board.
Voluntary contributions and charges are due by the end of term one. There will be more information to follow about the chance to win an exciting prize for fees sent in by the end of this term.
Peel Language Development School would like to warmly welcome our families back to school and we look forward to continuing to build positive and productive partnerships in 2017.

Expressions of Interest for Peel Language Development School Board
We are currently seeking expressions of interest for PLDS School Board. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Bedwetting
Bedwetting, or nocturnal enuresis, is very common in children. Bedwetting has nothing to do with dreaming, and children who wet the bed are not “just being lazy”.
If your child wets the bed, there are a number of things you can do to help, such as using a waterproof mattress cover and establishing a before-bed toilet routine. It is not helpful to punish children who wet the bed. Fluids should not be restricted, even before bedtime. Sugary or caffeinated drinks should be avoided.
If your child is still wetting the bed after five and a half years of age, seek help through a referral by your local doctor. A bedwetting alarm is an effective and safe method of treatment available for nocturnal enuresis and may be appropriate for your child.
Contact your local Community Health Centre, Kwinana Community Health on 0894192266 for more information.

Pinjarra Campus
Welcome back to the 2017 School Year!
Mrs Cudby and Mrs Rose hope you have all had lovely holidays. It has been great to hear about everyone’s fantastic holidays and see how excited the students are to be back at school. This year, the students in Year 2/3 have moved to our new classroom (Office 1). We would like to welcome our new student Ethan, who has joined us from Peel Language Development School in Mandurah. We also welcome back Mrs Panhuysen from Rockingham Lakes Peel Language, she will be teaching Science.
We are also delighted that Miss Jones, Mr Vogues, Mrs T Rose, Mrs Daly and our classroom volunteer Mrs Withers will return to our room to share their expertise. We have had a fantastic start to the year and have already engaged in a wide variety of learning experiences.
We have been learning about procedures. We wrote a procedure on 'How to make Painted Toast' after discussing and writing, it was time to see exactly what painted toast was. How would we make it? Can we eat it? Will it change colour? were just some of the many questions our inquisitive students asked and put to the test. As you can see from the smiles captured below, we had a great time.
Mandurah Campus
Well what a wonderful start to the year! Our kindy is very busy and everyone is settling in beautifully and making new friends. We are learning lots of new kindy routines, sharing lots of stories and singing lots of songs. We are also learning about our bodies and our families. A big thank you to all the parents who attended our class meeting last week. Our home practice books and parent help roster will be out shortly. Please watch our notice board for all updates.
Here are a few photos from our first couple of weeks in Kindy.
Many thanks
Mrs Reilly and Mrs Dale

PLDS Class ECE 5
As part of our Science work this Term in ECE5, we are focusing on gardening and growing things with Miss Murray. We are lucky enough to have the use of some garden beds down near the Rockingham Lakes Pre-Primary classes. Last week we cleaned up and prepared our garden beds and began our work by planting some mint. Next week we are going to find out if our mint plants are growing and also plant some pumpkin seeds. We are very excited and enthusiastic for our Wednesday Science lessons now.
ECE5 will also be using iPad’s every Thursday this year to help support our learning. This week we used a new piece of ICT equipment which is a robot called Dash. We had great fun being able to control his movements using the iPads. We could also change his coloured lights, make sounds and even record our voices for him to replay when commanded. Every child was able to use an iPad and a Dash robot throughout the morning lessons in order to improve their coding skills using IT.
We are definitely looking forward to a very busy and exciting year ahead in ECE5!
Bungaree Campus
The Bungaree students have had a very busy start to term 1. The students have been highly engaged in Literacy and Numeracy programs throughout all classrooms. We have also introduced to the students the Bee Bots. These mini robots are used to teach children basic programming skills like left, right, forwards and backwards. The Bee Bots have been integrated into the Bungaree classrooms seamlessly with many students enjoying the challenges of programming throughout the day. Thank you to all parents who are attending the Parent Teacher meetings on Friday we look forward to meeting you all. If you require a meeting with your teacher please communicate this through the communication folder and allow adequate time. A reminder that swimming lessons will commence in week 9 and 10, please return permission slips and payments as soon as possible.
