Principal’s Report
Welcome to the first newsletter for term one 2017. We hope you had a safe and happy holiday and are ready for the productive year ahead. Congratulations to parents, staff and students on a successful start to the school year. Our student enrolments have increased this year and we have added a new class at our Pinjarra Primary School site. Peel Language Development School would like to warmly welcome new families to our school and we look forward to forming positive and productive partnerships.
We would also like to warmly welcome new staff members to the dynamic team at PLDS. This year we welcome back Tenelle Veldman to our teaching team. We would also like to welcome our new teachers; Sophie Klem, Rachael Telford, Samantha Fyfe and Rachel Morgan along with Tracey Glass our new Education Assistant and Sarah Gardner who has joined the Outreach Team.
Our first School Board meeting will be held on Friday 17th February at 12.30pm and we look forward to setting the meeting timetable and focus areas for 2017.
In this newsletter you will find updates about our classes. Information will be sent home shortly about Class Meetings to be held next week, week 3. The purpose of the meetings is to discuss class routines, communication processes, school procedures, meet the PLDS staff working with your children and update contact details. Please return your RSVP notes promptly to class teachers and indicate whether your child will be accessing the bus on the meeting day. If you would like to individually discuss your child, please make an appointment with your class teacher for another time.
Communication is part of our very important duty of care for your child. Could you please make sure all contact details are updated with our front office (9593 9030), including emergency contacts. As per the information in your enrolment form, in the event of a medical emergency an ambulance will be called to ensure care of your child is provided. We are unable to release a student unless the person collecting them is on our contact list and has identification. Another important part of the communication process is about students accessing the bus service. Could you please make sure any changes to your child’s bus schedule is written in the Communication Book along with notifying the bus drivers.
Term one 2017 is a busy ten week term, with PLDS teachers shortly visiting students who transitioned to their home school this year. We are also busy testing students to assist with writing Individual Language Plans. Parents with be invited to a meeting at the end of term one to discuss the current language goals.
The team at PLDS looks forward to a successful and productive year with parents as partners in your child’s education as we continue to offer high quality education to our students and the schools we service across Western Australia.

We have had a wonderful start to the school year. All the children have settled nicely into their new class and were excited to meet their new teachers. Everyone has even remembered to wear their new school uniform! They all look amazing in the new colours and we would like to thank all the parents for their help and support with this exciting change.
We will be having a trial of the new canteen system for the first two weeks. This will be enabling us to order lunch orders every day. Please make sure that lunch orders are given to the classroom teacher by 9am.
Just a reminder to parents that all classrooms are opened at 8:40am and finishes at 3:00pm. Class meetings will be held next week, please check the communication books for the date and time.
We are excited for what is in store this year at Mandurah and we are looking forward to the year ahead.

Students and teachers have had an awesome start to the 2017 school year! We have been focussing on introducing the students to whole body listening and general classroom routines. The students have been highly engaged in morning language and literacy rotations and have commenced a variety of narrative activities based around familiar stories and fairy tales. Activities have included retelling the stories, sequencing pictures and story maps.
Parent teacher meetings have been scheduled for Friday the 24th of February at 2.20pm in your child’s classroom. We look forward to meeting with parents to discuss school protocols and classroom routines.

This week we have been busy settling into our new school routines. For some of our friends it is their very first time away from families, so it has been a big week!
Inside, we have practiced cutting and gluing. We have listened to stories, and made up our own. We built with Lego and foam blocks. We spoke about making good choices, and what good classroom behaviours look and sound like.
Outside, we have stood in a line, and waited our turn. We climbed the play equipment, and slid down the slide. We ran, jumped and balanced. We dug in the sand and wrote on the path with chalk! We have been very busy, learning with and through play.
To see more of our awesomeness, please come visit us, we’d love to see you!
Thank You A huge thank you to everyone who has made our first week possible. A big thank you to our Mummies, Daddies, Nannies and Poppies for getting us ready for school each day! A special thank you to all of the wonderful people helping us. Thank you Mrs Krem-er-sko-than :) our divine education assistant. Mrs Tanya Rose, our lovely Speech Pathologist. Ms Justine Daly, our Language Support Teacher. As well as Ms Smith, Mrs Cudby, Mrs (L) Rose, Ms Glass and Ms Jones. This week could not have happened without your love and help! |

The Importance Of Attendance Habits In The Early Years
Developing the habit of going to school every day is vitally important so your child does not miss out on important ideas, concepts, knowledge and skills they need for future learning.
Going to school every day helps children learn the important life skills of ‘showing up’ – at school, at work, to sport and other commitments.
